Bringing the Vet’s Workday Into One Experience
Ranger is a B2B tablet platform for mobile vets. This case study focuses on making the final billing experience more flexible and easier to manage.

Ranger was built for veterinarians working outside the clinic, where each home visit requires quick access to patient history, accurate documentation, and clear medical decision-making.
The platform brings the full visit workflow into one tablet experience - from medical records and treatment documentation to final billing.
Problem
Our veterinarians maintain packed schedules, traveling from one home to another to provide each patient with accurate assessments and the highest quality care. Within limited time, they must document extensive information, communicate effectively during visits, and manage tasks such as selling medications, conducting lab tests, writing prescriptions, and recommending additional products. They need a solution to streamline these responsibilities and make their workday more efficient.

The Challenge
Our veterinarians were using an external EMR system to document home visits. While it covered basic medical record needs, it wasn’t tailored to the reality of mobile vets working between appointments.
To successfully transition vets to Ranger, we needed to preserve the workflows they already relied on - while improving the parts that created friction in the field.

Mapping Vet Needs into Product Priorities
We surveyed veterinarians to understand which external EMR features they relied on most during home visits.
From there, we mapped and prioritized the key workflows Ranger needed to support, focusing on areas with high usage, friction, and operational impact.
One key workflow was visit wrap-up billing, where vets needed more flexibility to handle real payment scenarios in the field.

User Journey Map
Together with the product manager, we conducted user research to hear and better understand the frustrations accompanying our target audience when they need to take their pets to the veterinarian. We listened to various complaints and sensitivities on the subject. We conducted user research periodically, both at the beginning of the project and during its development, in order to create a precise product that serves the users in the best and most convenient way possible.

Designing a Flexible Billing Flow
At the end of a home visit, payment needed to support real-life billing scenarios, from combining cash and credit card to splitting charges between different cards or pets.
I redesigned the payment component into a flexible flow that lets vets add, change, and manage payment methods during visit wrap-up.

Credit card setup
The flow supports both saved cards and new card entry, with validation that keeps the payment action disabled until the required details are complete.


Enabling Multiple Payment Methods
Add payment method
To support split payments, vets can add another payment method directly within the billing flow.
Each section can be set to credit card or cash, allowing the total charge to be divided across methods. A delete option appears only when multiple payment methods exist.
Split amount logic
Once another payment method is added, the vet enters the amount to charge on the new section, and the original payment updates automatically with the remaining balance. This reduces manual calculation and helps prevent payment errors.

The vet can split the total charge across multiple payment methods and process each one separately.
After each successful payment, the billing summary updates automatically to show the paid amount and remaining balance.
Each payment receives a separate confirmation, helping the vet track progress and avoid mistakes.
A Step Toward Full Adoption
The Split Payment feature made the final billing experience more flexible, allowing vets to handle real payment scenarios such as splitting charges across cards, cash, or multiple pets.
This improvement helped increase Ranger adoption by 15%, bringing the team closer to the goal of full migration from the external EMR.

When comparing both funnels, New client vs. Returning client, we can see the following:
New client
The main goal is to guide the client to complete the booking process while having a good and pleasant experience. We integrated marketing content to encourage the client to complete the process without abandoning it in the middle.
We created "pro tips" aimed at streamlining the process.
Returning client
We aimed to create loyalty and make the client book additional wellness visits, all routine vaccinations and other treatments with us. We did this by shortening and simplifying the booking process, giving the option to choose their preferred veterinarian, coupon codes, subscription plans and more.
